We are pleased to announce that at the Iowa State Bar Association Annual Meeting, June 16 through June 19, 2014, Brick Gentry P.C. shareholder James E. Nervig will present major updates on Iowa's Real Property Tax Assessment Law.
The Iowa Legislature enacted the Commercial Property Tax Reform Act in 2013. This Act significantly changed assessment and taxation of real estate in Iowa. One of the most important changes is a business property tax credit now available to owners of business real estate who file a proper annual application. Mr. Nervig's presentation will identify other changes made by this Act, and explain their impacts upon classifications of real property.
The way a parcel is classified by the assessor can have a significant impact on the amount of real estate taxes that are due. A number of recent Iowa appellate court decisions have significantly impacted taxation of real estate. Key decisions will be discussed in detail.
Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center (formerly Veteran's Auditorium) in downtown Des Moines will host the meeting and its concurrent technology show.
